Rocky Mountain National Park
Don, my mother, and I have been in Steamboat since September 18. My mother, Earline, joined us for a day trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. This NP is only an hour and half from Steamboat and it is a beautiful drive. It is so nice to be so close to these beautiful places. We used the GyPSy Guide app to guide us through the scenic drive around Rocky Mountain National Park. We saw some amazing views, a view elk, glazier lakes, and so much more.
Lake Irene Hike
A short, but beautiful, hike around a small alpine lake.
Lake Irene Hike
This mile and half hike ended with a beautiful lookout.
The Tundra
Much of Rocky Mountain National Park is above the tree line which they called '“the tundra”. It was high, windy and desolate.
Glazier Lakes
As glaziers slide down the mountain, they create crevasses which fill up with water to form glazier lakes.
Longs Peak
Longs Peak is a “fourteener” which can be seen from Rocky Mountain NP. It is 14,259 high!
Bear Lake
There are no longer many bears in Rocky Mountain NP, but this lake was named a long time ago when there were bears. It was a beautiful lake, but super windy for our hike.
The Rut
The fall season is time for “The Rut” when elk are looking for love. These bachelors were walking along the road and created quite a traffic jam. The photos aren’t great, but it was fun seeing these huge creatures up close.
